This is the Pioneer PL 3F, was launched in 1985 as the successor to the PL-707.
This is a very iconic turntable as it was the last one manufactured by Pioneer, it was the end of the vinyl era, or so it was thought…
Technically it seems to share many components with the PL-707 which was introduced in 1982, the specifications are also quite similar.
The PL-3F was sold until 1989, was Pioneer’s TOTL during that four-year period.
It’s a Full Automatic with a number of other impressive technological features which result in fabulous sound. It has a static balance straight-pipe tonearm and a direct-drive quartz-lock Hall motor. By virtue of these advances and several others, the PL-3F’s pitch accuracy and overall sound is phenomenal. It has an SNR of >80 dB and a wow and flutter of <0.025%. Add to this the handsome cabinet finish, and you have a turntable that is both functional and beautiful.
It’s an excellent turntable, with very smooth operation.
