The Denon DP-47F is one of those turntables that reminds you why Denon is considered a legend in the world of hi-fi audio. Released in 1985, this fully automatic direct-drive turntable stands out not only for its rich rosewood veneer finish and solid build, but also for its impressive technical design that was ahead of its time.
At the heart of the DP-47F is a bi-directional quartz-locked servo drive system—a precision engineering feat that, together with the magnetic speed detector and electronic braking system, ensures consistent and stable platter rotation. Denon’s quartz lock keeps the speed accuracy tightly controlled at ±0.002%, making pitch fluctuations virtually imperceptible.
The tonearm is a low-mass straight design featuring Denon’s unique Q-damping mechanism, allowing for optimal tracking and reduced resonance. It also includes an automatic disc size detection system, a rare feature even by today’s standards. With a simple press of the “Locate” button, the tonearm can be moved precisely to the desired point on the record for instant playback—an extremely intuitive and useful feature.
All main controls are conveniently placed outside the dust cover, allowing full operation with the lid closed—ideal for preserving the pristine surface of your records. Despite all these strengths, one caveat remains: the entire automation system is powered by proprietary Denon microprocessors that are no longer in production. If these fail, repairs can be challenging and dependent on salvaged parts.
Nevertheless, the DP-47F remains an exceptional piece of hi-fi history: its ultra-precise engineering, rich analog sound, and ease of use make it a serious contender even against modern turntables.

I still have mine. Purchased new in 1986. Rosewood and black trim. In one of my relocations i have lost the top dust cover. I can have one made but need the hinges as well. If someone could post the dimensions of the cover and keep their eye out for hinges, i would be grateful.
