The SL-1200 Mark 2 was introduced in 1979 as an update to the SL-1200. It represented a culmination of Technics Turntable Innovations.
The mkII was released with a Quartz Locked Phase control system providing exceptional pitch accuracy and an aluminium diecast cabinet which had a special heavy-duty rubber base to isolate the turntable from external vibration.”
It soon found its way into discos as well as radio stations for airplay because of its vibration damping ability and resistance to feedback. Following their established formula, Technics offered two different model numbers: the 1200 (silver) and the 1210 (black).
The response of the pitch control is excellent for beatmatching and the strong torque motor allows for accurate scratching and mixing.
The SL 1200 MK2 defined DJ. It’s design, performance, and durability are legendary.
Beautiful iconic design, high quality construction with most parts made of metal, high torque direct drive motor, responsive pitch control, built to last with little maintenance, high re-sale value. no real comparable DJ turntable.
When Technics introduced the MK2, it made all other turntables seem antiquated in comparison.
In addition to being quartz-locked, it permits continuous speed adjustment under quartz control, a feature appreciated by disco DJ’s who wish to maintain consistent rhythm when changing records.
