Pioneer SA 8800 II [mk2]

The Pioneer SA-8800 II, launched in 1976, is the Japanese mk2 version of the SA-8800 and is electrically equivalent to the SA-8500 II, the export version.

This integrated amplifier captures the pinnacle of Pioneer engineering from the golden age of Japanese audio, balancing robust power with technical refinement in a compact 13.8 kg package.

A metal chassis with a brushed aluminium front panel displays the functional aesthetic typical of Pioneer in the 1970s: dual bass/treble controls with adjustable crossover, low/high-cut filters, loudness and A/B speaker selection.

The dual-mono architecture stands out with two dedicated transformers and generous capacitor banks (10,000 µF x4), minimising crosstalk and ensuring stability.

The sound character is balanced, typical of the era: detailed in the midrange, controlled bass and a wide, versatile soundstage.

Rare outside Japan.
